What do the Mayflower, pumpkin pie, a pumpkin spice latte, corn, candy corn and cherry pie have in common? It’s not a trick question and the answer isn’t that each is an iconic fall symbol. They were the sensational structtures built during Wyndham Capital’s first “Thanksgiving Canned Creations Food Drive,” which collected more than 1,500 cans/boxes of goods and beverages for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
Additionally, the company raised more than $1,000 — the financial donation alone provides almost 7,600 pounds of food to help feed those who are hungry.
Team Building for Community Building
Wyndham’s Culture Committee helps shape a dynamic company culture through team building and company events. These philanthropic activities keep us connected as a team, helping support a community that has supported us for over 17 years.
What brings a team together more than a bit of friendly competition? Employees gathered into seven cross-functional teams, including executive leadership staff. Team members were responsible for collecting their non-perishable items and then building their fall-themed masterpieces. In addition to the canned/boxed goods, teams could use water bottles and colored paper. One of Second Harvest Food Bank’s community development coordinators of food & fund drives, Lisa Nisely, visited our office to judge. Her criteria were level of creativity and thoughtful usage of items.
“Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina is thrilled to have Wyndham Capital Mortgage be involved with us this year,” commented Nisely. “Every food drive makes a huge difference, whether it’s during the holidays or in the summer. Quite frankly, we need food drives year-round because hunger is not just a holiday issue. Everyone did such a great job in the Canned Creations Competition, and it was such a fun way to get involved. The competition was stiff – there were a lot of tasty designs out there and some good humor as well. All in all, we are so appreciative of the donations made by Wyndham Capital Mortgage in helping to ensure our community has access to nutritious meals. Their gifts are a true support to families struggling with hunger, continued Nisely.”
And the winner was (drum roll, please) …. the closing team for their Mayflower ship design. They also took the prize for the most items donated, with 582 items. If you didn’t already, don’t you feel comfortable with this team closing your deal?
Honorable mention was awarded to the risk & human capital team for their slice of pumpkin pie and pumpkin spice latte creation. Creative, yet risk-averse.
However, the other teams did not disappoint. Each structure looked festive enough to be your Thanksgiving table centerpiece!
